How is your confidence as a health coach?
When I first started out as a new health coach, my confidence level was pretty shaky. I knew I really wanted to be a health coach and I knew I could help people, but it also made me really nervous! Can you relate?
It’s a big responsibility, and for most of us, it’s something new even if we’ve been in the health and/or fitness field for a while. For those that are brand new, it’s even more of an adjustment.
I recently presented a great training called TurboCharge Your Confidence – 5 Surefire Ways to go From Stuck to Unstoppable.
The response was overwhelmingly positive and I think it really struck a chord with a lot of coaches. You’re definitely not alone if this is something that’s on your mind right now.
I wanted to share one of the 5 tips with you today because I think you’ll find it helpful.
This first tip is a really practical one: Learn from the experts.
Two books that I love and highly recommend are: ‘Coaching Questions: A coach’s guide to Powerful Asking Skills’, and ‘The Prosperous Coach’ by Steve Chandler and Rich Litvin.
The first book “Coaching Questions” is chock FULL of awesome high-mileage questions. I hilited the heck out of my copy. You’ll be able to create a go-to list of YOUR favorite high-mileage questions so you’ll always be ready with something.
Being prepared can REALLY help boost your confidence and it’s important to have questions ready that will help elicit those ‘aha’ moments for clients to have breakthroughs.
The second book, The Prosperous Coach is more of a “how to” coach book and it has helpful tips and strategies.
Both books were very helpful for me as I was starting out, and you can find them on Amazon.
It’s okay to be afraid to start – do it anyway. There are a lot of people that can benefit from your expertise and your services.
The only way it’s going to get easier, is to step outside of your comfort zone and start. Guess what… you wont’ be perfect, and that’s okay.
Perfection doesn’t exist, but improvement does and that begins with practice.
One quote that I absolutely LOVE from the ‘Prosperous Coach’ book is this:
“Don’t wait for 100% readiness. It will never come. When you are 80% ready, go for it. Run straight at it. Get exposed. Risk messing up.”
What is ONE thing you can put into place TODAY to take action to build your confidence and your business (the two are directly related).
I’m rooting for you!
